Acknowledgments
Great Dane owners from around the world throughout the years have generously shared their knowledge about the many varied ways of the Great Dane. Though we cannot list every one of them, we would like to mention Linda Arndt, JP Yousha, Gina M. Jaeblon, Sharon Hladik, and Carolyn Mobley.
About the Authors
Rachel Cawley has been actively involved with the breeding, showing, and training of Great Danes for more than a decade. She enjoys Great Danes as loving family members, as well as being a breeder handling them in conformation and rally. Rachel gained her interest in animals while living on a farm in her youth. She has studied creatures domestic and wild. Rachel has a certification for wildlife rehabilitation and has spent time working alongside veterinarians. She has visited hospitals with therapy animals (including a Great Dane, a cat, and a miniature horse). Rachel is also known as an accomplished artist, creating portraits, pointillism, kennel logos, cartoon art, sculpture, and more. Her work can be found at various Internet locations.
John Cawley has been a writer for more than two decades. He has authored and co-authored numerous books, and his articles have appeared in dozens of publications. John has become a full-time Great Dane dad and enjoys the time he spends with his family—two- and four-legged.
All information and advice contained in this book has been reviewed by a veterinarian.
A Word About Pronouns
Many dog lovers feel that the pronoun “it” is not appropriate when referring to a pet that can be such a wonderful part of our lives. For this reason, Great Danes are described as “he” throughout this book unless the topic specifically relates to female dogs. This by no means infers any preference, nor should it be taken as an indication that either sex is particularly problematic.
