Next day mother took Julie to a clothing store. Dad wanted to potter around in the garden alone, so he forked out a tidy sum for their shopping. Julie was annoyed and didn’t want to try on many of the things her mother wanted her to. T-shirts were too tight, or jeans didn’t suit her, or trainers had laces to do up. They were just excuses.
«A penny for your thoughts, honey. You look sad. What’s happened?», her mother asked.
Julie said nothing. Actually, she couldn’t help thinking of ex friend Pat who might look great wearing those clothes. She imagined Alex smiling at Jessie and taking her to the river, and all thoughts turned upside down in her head. It messed her up. She heard her mother telling a shop assistant that she had a chip on her shoulder.
«Sweetie, a mental hospital will cost us an arm and a leg, if you go on like that’, smiled her mother.
Julie was aware of that, but she just couldn’t help it. She was missing Alex and very jealous of him to Pat.

♦ HELP ME GET BY FOR A WHILE, PLEASE
Hi Rob,
How are you coping financially this term? Could you lend me some money to bail me out1, please? I failed to pay my fees last week; I’d gone through2 a huge amount of money for games. I couldn’t imagine I’d run out of3 it so quickly. Last year, my parents coughed up4 1k without a problem. But this time, no chance. I didn’t goof off5 for the whole term, I had A grades, and now I am just lacking the money to go on. If you could help me, I guess I’d work off6 the debt during the holidays. A friend of mine helped me get a job in her parents’ café. But it’ll take some time to earn money. So I hope you’ll help me to get by7 for a while until I get a more stable income.
Love,
Jessie
