      Then the temptation seized him (потом искушение овладело им; to seize – хватать; охватывать). “As plain as the nose on your face (совершенно ясно: «так же просто, как нос на твоем лице»),” he said, as he abandoned his laborious cross-cutting and climbed to the indicated apex (сказал он, оставив утомительное пересечение, и взобрался к намеченной вершине). He filled a pan (он наполнил лоток) and carried it down the hill to wash (и отнес его к низу холма, чтобы промыть).
